Hello YouthSpeak Followers:
YouthSpeak in partnership with Addiction Services of York Region is once again hosting our annual A.W.A.K.E conference held on March the 1st 2012. Planning will soon commence and we are very excited. We have also done a number of great presentations including Durham Children’s Aid Society and a Public Health training presentation. Our up-coming events include our speakers presenting at the TAMI summit and we are holding an all day event with the YRDSB on October the 20th 2011 at the Dr. Bette Stephenson centre for learning.
Hello Everyone,
YouthSpeak is very excited to announce that Addiction Services for York Region will once again be planning the A.W.A.K.E conference in March 2012. Last year the A.W.A.K.E Conference held at the York Regional Police Community Safety Village was a great success and we are extremely thrilled to offer this event to York Region students. We are also looking forward to being part of other upcoming events like “Let’s Be Blunt” hosted by Jewish Family Services, the York Regional Police “Girl Space” forum and the TAMI Summit. This year we also made a great connect and are pleased to join the LGBTTQ Network.

On Wednesday June 29th, 2011 YouthSpeak was invited to speak at the Durham Family Court Clinic’s AGM. Joanne and Will were phenomenal; it was a very powerful presentation to the DFCC Board of directors, youth and staff. We truly appreciated the respect, friendly atmosphere and warmth from all in attendance including Durham Rogers Television. Board Chair of DFCC, Mike Brown had this to say to Joanne and Will “Welcome back to you both to the lives you deserve to enjoy to the fullest. We are stronger because of your courage to share, to show us all that change is possible. We wish the future affords you both all that you need to be successful.” Thank you DFCC for including YouthSpeak in your event.
On Monday June 20th, 2011, YouthSpeak was invited to present at the Blue Hills AGM in Aurora. Blue Hills is a “Client centered service focused on social, emotional and behavioral well-being primarily for children, youth and their families.” The environment was very welcoming and respectful, Katie spoke with great heart and the audience was extremely moved. It was a wonderful opportunity to speak to many service providers across York Region. We thank Blue Hills for a memorable event and to Katie for sharing her powerful story.
On June 2nd, 2011 YouthSpeak was invited to present during a Breakfast for Learning celebration, as they acknowledged their volunteers. One of our youth speakers Will, spoke with great heart and said that it was “A warm environment and memorable event “. He even had an opportunity to play his very own song on guitar. “Feeding hungry minds throughout the day” Breakfast for Learning helps communities create nutrition programs for children and youth; providing food, education and awareness. Thank you to the Breakfast for Learning program for including YouthSpeak in their celebration.
We had the privilege of travelling to Manitoulin Island recently to visit the quaint First Nations community, Aundeck Omni Kaning. The youth speakers enjoyed sharing their stories with the parents and the youth, as well as leading the students through some activities that focused on self-awareness and building self-esteem.

Posted: April 17, 2011 by Ryan Caleb in Upcoming EventsWe are very excited about our new YouthSpeak Blog, so we can share with you our news on all of our upcoming events.
Children’s Mental Health week is the first week in May, and our YouthSpeak team is really looking forward to participating in a number of events to support and create awareness around mental health for youth within and outside of York Region.
We are booked at various schools which is a great forum to share our messages. We are visiting the Halliburton community for an all-day event for grades 8 and 9 hosted by the Point in Time Centre for Children, Youth and Parents. Thanks everyone, this blog is cool what a great way to connect the team. If you have an event planned and you are looking for speakers we still have some availability during Children’s Mental Health week or at any other time that you would like to book our presentation.
A redesign of our website is currently being created. At this point we are almost 50% of the way there. A fresh new look for our viewers along with this blog and our facebook page will hopefully appeal our presentations to more interested groups.
